Somalia Who
Wants To Know
Somalia has experienced a turbulent past, and as
such, the history of Somalis is fraught with a great deal of speculation.
Numerous sources place Arabia as the original homeland of the Somali
people, others suggest a more indigenous provenance that some say
can be traced all the way back to the first millennium BCE. The
ancient ancestors of the Somali people, proponents of this propose,
split off from an early cushitic speaking in the highlands of Ethiopia,
and are referred to as the Sam. The Sams are said to be a sub-type
of Omo-tana and are believed to have evolved into the Somalis as
they transitioned first from Somaal and later the Somali people.{1}
Genetics
A tool that uses the genes of modern populations to trace their
ethnic and geographic origins has also helped pinpoint the possible
background of the modern Somalis. According to one prominent European
Journal of human Genetics, the Somalis are closely related to certain
Ethiopian and Eritrean groups: The data suggests that the male Somali
population is a branch of the East African population- closely related
to the Oromos in Ethiopia and North Kenya-with predominant E3b1
cluster lineage that were introduced into the Somali population
4000-5000 years ago, and that the male Somali population has approximately15%
Y chromosomes from Euroasia and aproximately 5% from sub-Saharan
Africa.
Besides comprising the majority of the Y DNA in Somalia, the E1b1b(formerly
E3b) genetic hablogroup also makes up the bulk of the paternal DNA
of Ethiopians,Eritreans,Berbers,North African Arabs as well as many
Mediterranean and Balkan Europea. {2}
The Land known as Ethiopia today is the homeland of the Gala people
and the only reason that the Abbyssennian Chtistians of the minority
Amharas & Tigrays were and still ruling our Galaland( Somali,Oromo)
is because of the christian crusders who agrressively and continously
waged a genocidal war against the peoples of the horn of Africa
who were pagans before they converted to Islam little over 14 centures
ago..
History tells that there was a kingdom of Somaal in what is today
somalia and Ethiopia. There was no relationship, blood or otherwise
between Arabs and Somails before the arrival of the early muslims
in the Biyaa Oramaa(Galaland). We were never Arabs, and never will
be, for those in the west who do not know the difference between
Arabs and muslims ought to note of the fact that the overwhelming
majority of muslims are non Arab.
one of the most reliable books wrtitten about somalia is called:
(The Islam In Somalia) and is authored by an egyptian who travelled
across the country, researching the culture, tombs, langauges spoken
and, and ultimately drew the conclussion that the present day Somali
langauge is simlar to the langauge spoken in ancient Egypt some
5000 years ago.
Greater Somalia drean down, but not out
The five edged white star in the center of the sky blue flag of
Somalia symbolizes the five parts of the dismembered Greater Somalia,
and are, british Somaliland, italian Somaliland that gained independence
and united under the republic of Somalia on July, 1960. plus Djibouti
which is partialy independent but mostly occupied by the U.S and
French troops, NFD and the abbyssenian Somaliland which is under
the merciless clutches of the tigray dogs.
The somali Republic has since ceased to exist and usurped by the
abbysseenians, but the difference is that the north West and north
Eastern regions of Somalia did not stir a finger when the tree fell
on them, whereas, the cenrtral and southern regions of the dismembered
Republic are still with the help of the masses ressisting the daily
barage of the abbyssennian heavey artilery.
The greater Somalia dream is held dear to the heart by all true
patriotic Somalis of today as well as those of yesteryears, but
was first officialy floated when in early 1946, the British Foreign
Seretary Mr Bevin in a speach to the house of commons proposed the
idea of greater Somalia under British rule, claiming that this will
improve the lives of the nomadic people of Greater Somalia, but
was and is percieved as a way of save -guarding and stregthening
the British interests and influences in that part of the world,
while keepiing the dwindling power and influence of the defeated
Italy as far away as possible. The British proposal of Greater somalia
under British adminstration was rejected by the remaing three( USA,USSR,France),
Four Power commission.[3]
The honorable Abdullahi Majoor became a member of the Somali Young
League on January 12,1946 narrated the following to me:
On January 1948 there was a somali youth League convention in Mogadishu
and a delegation of four power commission were also in town to learn
first hand the aspirations of the Somali people in terms of independence
and met with leaders of the pro-independence party( The SYL) and
those of the pro-italaian rule parties. The Somali youth League
organized a huge demonstration to show the fact finding commission
how popular and strong the yearning, desire and the demand for independence
is, unfortunately a pro- italian colonial rule counter-demonstration
was hastly organized and staged by: Progresso Party led by Musse
Samatar and Adan shire( Adan Low),Digil & Mirifle Party led
by abdulqadir soobe, The African Party led by Mohamed Sheikh Osman(Edmondo)
and several other smaller parties led by Islow mahadle.[4]
In the confussion of the opposing demonstrations a violence instigated
by the Italian residents and their colloboraters got out of hand
and as a result 52 Italians and 11 somalis were killed.
Soon after the Power of four Commissin left, the Chief British Military
Adminstration(BMA) summoned the Somali Youth Legue(SYL) leadership
and offered to give to Somalia all disputed area with Ethiopia,
except Dirir dhabe, Harar and Moyaale but the SyL leaders vowed
never to accept anything if all not offered.
Dr.Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke was the Prime minister of Somalia in
1962 and I was a member of Pariment when the British goverment offered
to cede three (Mandhera,Wajir, Garissa)of the six NFD districts
claimed by Somalia to Somalia in exchange for the Somalia membership
of Common Wealth Countries, but sadly enough, the Abdirashiid Goverment
rejected the offer, and all be told a year later lost Mandera, Wajir,
Garissa, Moyaale, siyelow and Marsabit for good to Kenya..[5]
The Nomadic Somali speaking people who by Colonial boundry"
arrangements" found themsel dismembered. About two-thirds of
them live under the national flag of the Somali Republic and the
remainder are divided between Djibouti( former French Somaliland),
Ethiopia and Kenya. This historical error prompted the then Somali
Presiden/Prime Minister, Dr. Abdirashid Ali Sharmarky to say this:
"No! Our misfortune is that our neighboring countries whom
we seek to promote constructive and harmonious relations are not
our neighbors, but our Somali kinsmen whose citizenship has been
falsified by indiscriminate boundry "arrangements". They
have to move across artificial frontiers to their pasture lands.
They occupy the same terrain and pursue the pastural economy as
ourselves. We speak the same langauge. We share the same God, the
same culture, and the same traditions. How can we regard our brothers
as foreigners?"[6]
