Press Release:

(Mogadishu, Somalia, October, 04, 2011)

The President of the Republic of Somalia H.E. Sharif Sh. Ahmed has strongly condemned the shameful and cowardly suicide attack on innocent Somalis, many of whom were young students waiting for their results at the Ministry of Education.

“I am extremely shocked and saddened by this cruel and inhumane act of violence against the most vulnerable in our society.

I would like to send my deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims and the people of Somalia, I pray for the dead and speedy recovery for the injured.” said the President.

This was an attack launched by Al-Shabab/Al-Qaeda that is set on destroying the country and any hope for its people’s future, Al-Shabab are an enemy of the Somali people and an enemy of the future stability of Somalia.

President Sharif expressed the need for the Somali people to unite against the common enemy that is focused on massacring the youth of this nation, “they cannot attack our resolve and will not turn us away from a future in our own safety and security, united in peace and prosperity.” said President Sharif.

“In recent months, we have been working hard to consolidate and improve security in the capital. We have deployed forces across the city, appointed district Commissioners for all districts, declared a state of emergency which has allowed effective reaction to the threats against people, but we need to do more in insuring security in the capital but also going after the terrorists in order to prevent similar attacks in the future.” said Mr. Sharif.

At this time, when the country is in the midst of a worsening humanitarian crisis, the enemy could not have attacked the Somali people at a worst time.

Al-Shabab have claimed responsibility for a suicide attack at a busy junction, outside of the Ministry of Education which resulted in the death of more than 70 people and 150 injured, most of which were young students.
