The forces of Al-Shabab have not captured the town in battle as they have done in Kismayu town the headquarters of the lower Juba region which they have encountered three days of battle between them and tribal militiamen loyal to Bare Hirale a Somali member of parliament. On the other hand the seizure of towns by the Islamists is rapidly increasing high; there are several towns which are now under the control of the Islamists to mention them are Jowhar town the headquarters of middle Shabelle region, Bulabarde in Hiran region and some many others. The armed Islamists are also carrying out almost daily raids against the Somali government soldiers and there Ethiopian ally. Al-Shabab was the military wing of the Islamic Courts Union which was in control of south and central Somalia, but eventually ousted from their rule by the immediate bordering country Ethiopia giving support to the feeble Somali government which had no access to reach the capital Mogadishu.
