“We have ambushed Ethiopian military convoy” says Islamic Courts Union spokesman

Heavy confrontation has on Friday afternoon taken place around Bardale district in Bay region in southern Somalia.

This confrontation commenced after the Islamic Courts Union ambushed Ethiopian military convey traveling along the road which links Bay and Gedo regions.

The exchange of gunfire between the Islamists and the Ethiopian troops were echoing in the entire neighborhoods, and the nomads in the area fled from the area.

“I was some few miters away from where the confrontation occurred, I was panicked I dashed right in front of me leaving behind my livestock of which I cannot tell where they are now” said Aliyow Eden a resident in the area.

“We have flogged the Ethiopian troops who were traveling in their so called military convey, all thanks are due to the Almighty God who has given us this opportunity” Sheikh Abdirahin Isse Adow the operation commander of the Islamic Courts Union. On the other hand there are no comments coming out of the Ethiopian troops, and have no spokesman on the ground.

Likewise there are no independent sources confirming the success claimed by the Islamic Courts Union.

Battles between the Islamists and the Ethiopian troops have been taking in the Somali capital Mogadishu and several other regions in the country such as Bay Bakool and Hiran regions.

The Islamist were in control of south and central Somalia for the 6 months before they were ousted by the Ethiopian troops which were financially backed by the United State of America in late 2006.
