Somalia: 20 died after barrages in Bakara bazaar

More than 20 ordinary civilians died and over 40 wounded after 7 mortars landed at Bakara market the busiest commercial point in Somalia. This mortar barrages came after one of the Islamic factions in Mogadishu fired some mortars towards the Somali presidential palace in the capital Mogadishu on Monday evening.
One of the places where the highest number of people met the tragedy is around the vegetable point, which is situated |
right in the center of Bakara market. After the first fired mortar hit at the vegetable point 10 people immediately lost their lives in the cluster bomb, and people came to rescuer the wailing wounded ones and then the second one came and exterminated those who came to rescuer.
“I saw with my naked eyes people helplessly laying in pool of blood, I could not dare to go closer I was watching the event under concrete story building around the vegetable market in Bakara bazaar, what has panicked me a lot was the mortars were landing on the same, same destination” said Farah Yusuf a kiosk owner near the vegetable market in Bakara market.
Mr. Farah also added that he has seen a minibus loaded with people with blood stains on their body brought from the interior of Bakara taken towards medical centers in the capital specially to Medina hospital where most of the Mogadishu wounded persons are taken to.
The other place where a stray mortar landed is a township near Bakara market, and has claimed the lives of 4 pedestrians including a young boy 6 years. The residents of Bakara market were pointing their fingers towards the presidential palace, saying that it is where Bakara was bombarded. The Islamic faction of Al-Shabab has claimed of been behind the raid carried at the presidential palace.
An officer in Somali transitional federal government says that the Somali government and the AMISOM forces are free from the bombardment of Bakara market where number of innocent Somali civilians lost their lives.
