Somalia: 28 women under treatment at AU hospital in Mogadishu

Mogadishu Friday 6 November 2009 SMC

There are 28 Somali women who are currently undergoing medical treatment at AU hospital in Mogadishu, which used to be a former military training ground in the south of the capital Mogadishu.

These women are brought from the different districts in the different regions in Somalia.

The majority of these women have now healed from the problems they have been suffering from, as Colonel James who is among the Doctor who are attending the surgeon operations told Somaliweyn radio.

It was recently when the Khadija Mohammed Diriye the Minister of Rural Development and Forest has said that there is a big need to salvage the lives of the Somali women, who are lately facing many challenges in their lives.

The Minister has also confessed that she has donated Aid to more than 60 women who are suffering from bladder problems, and some of the donation she has made include: drugs, medical apparatus, clothes and some other items which women usually use.

The Minster has also added that the objective of the equipment is to morally support the suffering Somali ladies.

“I speaking on behalf of the Somali government we shall not forget the efforts the African Union troops are doing for the Somali people especially these ladies whose bladders got bust, and the Somali government will closely monitor the health status of the entire patients at the African Union hospital in Mogadishu, particularly these ladies who are the most ailing patients in the hospital we shall not as well easily forget the efforts done by the COGWO women organization which has stood in evacuating these female patients from the different sectors of the country” said Khadija Mohammed Diriye the Minister of Rural Development.

She has also added that on her side she will be not be tired in helping hand to the entire patients in the hospitals until they entire recover.

Khadija Mohammed the Minister of Rural Development was accompanied in her tour at the AU hospital by some lawmakers in the Somali parliament, like Habibo Mohammed, Bishara Abdi Garbey, the admin director of the Ministry of Rural Development lady Asho Koos Mohamoud and some other dignitaries.

On the other hand Abdi Muse Mahey the chairman of an organization which stands for helping the Somali children, has pledged that his organization will do all means and ways to help these ladies who are ailing from bladder problem, and to closely supervise the level of their health until they fully recover.

Dr. Zahra Mohammed Ahmed has expressed how their organization is feeling sympathy of the problem other Somali sisters, who are always the victims of every side

“We have been following the cases of these women for a period of 2 months and their actual figure was 60 and now 13 of them have successfully gone under surgeon, and are now gradually recovering, we are respectfully appealing from the International community, the Somalis in and out of the country, to assist in helping these ladies, since the ethnic clashes erupted in Somali the women remained the most vulnerable and the most targeted” said Dr. Zahra Mohammed.

“I was forced to a force marriage, I was given to a man who is bigger than me in age wise, and in the first night to bed with him he could not penetrate his thing into me, because I was circumcised and had stitches in me, so therefore I screamed because of agony, and in the following night he has tied my hands and gagged my mouth and took a stick to open the my private part, and instantly blood appeared he cared less about my anguish and he carried out his sensation, and in this case he has damaged my bladder” said Halima was among the 28 ladies speaking to Somaliweyn radio.

On in another case Amina who is among the 28 ladies has said that she was living in a remote area where their were no medical centers and experienced midwives, and when she felt the labour pain she has informed her husband who has attended in her delivery and while the child was coming through the birth canal, he has used force and accidentally removed the whole uterus, and in this case she could not have the ability to stop pissing around, and when the man has seen this new case to her he has jilted her and divorced her.

Some women have different kinds of diseases and yet they cannot express this because of their bashfulness, but these ones are very lucky they were devotedly helped by the Somali federal government, the African Union Peacekeepers and other organizations.

Ultimately the Dr. confirmed that main cause of this disease which attacks women in the bladder is caused by either 1- Early marriage 2- Female Genital Mutilation or other immoral things.
