Somali prime ministers says”presidents is to resign”

Mogadishu Thursday, 20 November 2008 SMC

Somali Prime Minister Nur Hassan Hussein know as (Nur Adde) and the president Abdulahi Yusuf are locked in internal dispute over the forming the new cabinetb ministers, as IGAD threatened to be imposed the person is seen tackling the process of the reconciliation.

Nur Adde talking to Los Angles times news paper absolutely supported that Mr. Yusuf to leave from the office and accused him that he doesn’t want the country and it’s people achieve peace.

While the premier was asked whether the president should step down, he said “Yes, I agree that the president remains the problem of this country. If the transitional institutions are not delivering, it is because of the obstacles our president is creating. Instead of leading us to peace and stability, he wants to keep the country a hostage of the current situation”.

Nur Adde rebuffed the previous statement from Somali president which saying there is no government currently working in Somalia.

He stated “We are very sorry to hear from the president that there is no government. Definitely there is. The parliament is there. The president is there. The federal institutions are still alive. Our top priority is the reconciliation process [implementation of a peace deal signed in August in Djibouti with a leading opposition faction]. We believe it is the key for peace in Somalia. Without this, chaos and lawlessness will continue”.

Nevertheless this speech comes two days after a meeting in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia the IGAD's Ministers of foreign affairs have reached a tough agreement to impose travel sanctions on the Somali politicians that are accused of tackling the peace process in the country.

The meeting called the different sides of the Transitional Federal Government to reach an immediate agreement and to work towards peace in the country. The same call has been made during last week's IGAD meeting in Nairobi.

The TFG has been suffering with an internal conflict between the Prime Minister and the President that hampered the country's move towards stability. The President did not agree the list of the new cabinet ministers nominated by the Prime Minister even after IGAD's mediation between the two.

Analysts told Somaliweyn Radio that this decision is another move to put more pressure on the Somali leaders in order to come to an agreement.

Somali has been luck of government since 1991, after warlords had toppled the former military regime of Mohamed Siyad Barre.
