Somalia: Protesters say “We support Somali Prime minister”

Mogadishu Monday, 17 November 2008 SMC  

Hundreds of Mogadishu dwellers have made demonstrations to show their support to the Somali prime minister and his efforts towards the reconciliations, and his newly formed cabinet ministers.

The protesters have been shouting words like “Success Nur, Reconcile the Somalis, the refuses must be down and other words alike.

One of the protestor who was female told Somali weyn in the crowded place “This demonstration was organized by us and we like the peace we don’t want more wars” she said.

A Somaliweyn reporter says the protesters were among kinds of the populations including children, elders and other people.

Protesters have marched parts of Mogadishu, and later went back to Yaqshid district whereby they were organized before.

Somali president and the prime minister have locked in internal dispute, which the president said the government is "on the verge of total collapse" as opposition fighters have taken control of large parts of the country.

"The prime minister gave me a list of new cabinet ministers but I do not know how to approve names of those who destroyed our government when the constructive ones were excluded," Yusuf said.

Somali prime minister said in an accusation statement "It is unfortunate that the president has become the first to oppose the IGAD directives though he was one of the signatories."
