Islamic Courts Union took control of Waberi polce station for a brief time

Islamist fighters seized Waberi district police station for a brief time dusk yesterday evening.
The battle between the Somali government police force and that of the Islamic Courts Union commenced with the firing of rocket propel grenades and other heavy machineguns.
Both sides exchanged heavy weaponries, but the government police force were pushed back and this has made easy for the I.C.U forces to smartly enter the police station and set blaze to police pickups parked inside the station.
The police spokesman said that the attackers have achieved no advantage in their attack, but immense lose as he put it the press.
He claimed that his men have killed several of the attackers, and even caught some of them in hand.
On the other hand Islamist spokesman Abdirahim Issa Adow said that his fighters killed eight policemen.
He said one Islamist fighter died and two were wounded in the attack. He also said the Islamists fired 9 mortars into two Ethiopian military bases the national stadium and the former Somali military command.
The frequent battles between the Somali government and their antagonist has always have effects on the innocent civilians who are not involved in the battle.
