Mogadishu Thursday, July 10 2008 SMC“     

Three children have died and six others are very ill after having consumed poisoned milk in Magurto bal Guri village 9Km east of Afgoi district in the lower shabelle region which itself is 30KM west of the Somali capital Mogadishu.

The numbers of the children who have taken the poisoned milk were totaling 8, but two have instantly died on the spot while the others were rushed to Afgoi district hospital which is the immediate hospital in the area.

One of the kids who was among the consumers died on the way before reaching the hospital because of the poor road and there was no means of transportation to do the services.

“The children poured pesticide killer into the open milk which was in a jug” said a victim mother.
It is not the first time people living in Mgurto Bal Guri to die in such condition it was last year when 42 people were infected by poison when they were in a festival sacrifice, but for those ones they have recived immediate care.
“We are livestock keepers and we cannot do with out pesticide, at the same time we cannot avpoid from our children taking it, in fact they take when we are not seeing them” Yussuf Ali an elder in the village.
