Somalia: 7 hours battle in the Somali capital Mogadishu 20 dead

The Somali capital Mogadishu is now rather cool, after it has been in a night of deadly battle between the Somali transitional federal government backed by the African Union troops and the armed insurgents.

The battle between these sides commenced at exactly 2:00am local time, when almost the entire of the city dwellers were in a soundless sleep and ended in dawn on Friday at around 8:00am.  

The warring sides were exchanging heavy and light weaponries, which have resulted civilian casualties. According to reports Somaliweyn Website has gathered from the different parts of the city were there were simultaneous clashes so far 18 people were killed and 26 others sustained different injuries. 

One of the vital target points of the insurgent was the Somali presidential palace in which they have attacked in different parts, but repelled by the African Union troops, and the Somali government troops.

The battle was claimed to have been taken by the strongest armed insurgent group in Somalia, Al-Shabba, and in the claiming report Al-Shabab has mentioned the place where they have raided and these are the building of comrade Siyad, Tarabunka, Ex-Afgoi control, the key junction of KM4 and the Somali presidential palace.                                           

This overnight fighting comes at a time when the Somali transitional federal government is on Friday celebrating its first anniversary since it was established in Djibouti. Somaliweyn English News Desk
