Somalia: Prominent figure in Hizbul-Islam snubs amalgamation between Islamists

Mogadishu Tuesday 02 February 2010 SMC

Sheikh Ahmed Mohammed Islam best known as Ahmed Modobe has strongly opposed the collusion between Al-Shabab and Raskamboni a former faction in Hizbul Islam which has on Monday amalgamated itself with Al-Shabab in the southern Agricultural town of Baidoa the headquarters of Bay region.

Sheikh Ahmed Modobe who is a senior officer in Hizbul-Islam one of the armed factions in Somalia, has on held a press conference instantly after the collision between the two sides was announced, and termed the collusion as null and void.

“Raskmaboni is a fugitive faction I am sure that collusion between the two parts will have no impact on us, and I ma sure we shall win over them, and I am frankly telling you that Sheikh Hassan Turkey is currently ailing person, and he is not as vivid as he used to be once, indeed he is a respected man in the framework of the Islamists but I am telling you he is inactive” said Ahmed Maodobe a senior officer in Hizbul-Islam speaking to Somaliweyn website.

Ahmed Madobe has been in the mid of last year battling with Al-Shababs in some parts of the lower Jubbah regions in far southern Somalia and he is now taking cover in the thick jungle in the lower Jubbah region, and he has vowed to eliminate his rival meaning the Al-Shababs from the region and eventually from the entire of Somalia as he has said.
