Somalia: Nine Somali government soldiers joined the Islamists in Mogadishu

Muqdisho Thursday, August 28 2008 SMC

Nine of the Somali government military soldiers who were recently trained in the Abyssinian soil joined the Islamic rebels of Somalia which is the third insurgent group functioning in Somalia after Al-Shabab

the Military wing of the Islamic Courts Union and the Islamic Courts Union its self on dusk Wednesday.

Some of these defected soldiers talked over the media and said that their base was the former pasta factory in the far northeastern direction of the Somali capital Mogadishu.

One of the defected soldiers who does not admire his name to be aired in the press said that he could not as person endure what his fellow soldiers were doing to the pedestrians passing by such opening fire at aimlessly and some times torturing them out having done nothing to them.

Likewise another soldier said that he was present and an eyewitness when the joint Ethiopian and the Somali soldiers were shooting and killing at mass the innocent Somali passengers traveling in between Mogadishu and Afgoi district especially at Arbiska location.

An officer from the Islamic rebels of Somalia said that they will purchase the arms which these men came with and promised to do for them what ever they wish.

The Islamic rebels’ officer also added that he is ready to welcome if they will like to join their Muslim brothers in the fight against the infidels and their aficionados or handover everybody to the location he hails from.

This sort of defection is not the first of its kind to happen in Mogadishu, but generally the officials from the Somali government defy these statements from the insurgents.

Somalia has been without central government for the past two decades since the collapse of the regime of former dictator Mohamed Siyad Bare.
