Ahmed Aden was sentenced in the December 2014 death of Abdisamad Sheikh-Hussein, a Somali student, who was hit as he was leaving the Somali Center in Kansas City, the Jackson County Prosecutor’s office said.
Aden entered an Alford plea in December to charges of second-degree murder and armed criminal action.
Prosecutors said the crime was heinous and that Aden was “outwardly anti-Muslim.”
Aden initially told prosecutors that he intentionally hit the teenager. He said he was looking for men who had threatened him earlier and mistakenly thought Abdisamad boy was one of those men.
