AMISOM Force Commander assesses progress made by AU troops in Baidoa.

Mogadishu:-The Force Commander of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), Lieutenant General Tigabu Yilma on Saturday visited Baidoa, the headquarters of troops from Ethiopia, where he was briefed on the overall security situation and progress being made in implementing the Concept of Operations and the Somali Transition Plan.

Lt. Gen. Yilma held closed-door meetings with commanders of the Ethiopian National Defense Forces and thereafter interacted with the soldiers in the sector to encourage them. He also discussed the security situation in and around the area the Ethiopian troops operate and the state of civil-military projects undertaken by the forces to support the local population.

Col. David Obonyo, Chief Military Intelligence Officer, who briefed the media after the meeting said the aim of the force commander’s visit to Baidoa was to evaluate the overall security of the region where Ethiopian troops operate.

“This is a routine visit that the Force Commander conducts to troops in all sectors. In addition to that, he assessed the ongoing rotation, the movement of troops and the general security situation in the sector.”
