It is official that two Ahmeds emerged as the top leaders of the ruling party in the Somali region. I WELCOME this change with open mind, particularly chairman Ahmed Shide.
I met Ahmed in 2015 at the Somali federalism conference in Addis. Ahmed was a keynote speaker representing the Ethiopian government. He was sharp, well prepared, excellent command of both the language and content of his subject.
He ably laid out so clearly about Ethiopia’s fiscal federalism, all of us Somalis were positively impressed.
Moreover, as the minister for an “A” ministry – minister of transportation with one of the largest budgets – he was designated as the most achieving and most impressive leader.
He has been in the system and knows well how to navigate the political intrigues in Addis.
ALSO, like most of us, his community is impacted by the conflict between Oromos and Somalis.
LET ME WRITE THIS IN CAPITAL AND BOLD LETTERS: HE IS AS SOMALI AS ME, YOU, HER AND.. cut out the rascist crab.
I will give him the most latitude and hope that he discharges his duties entrusted by his people. That same goes for the new President.
Let us welcome this transition and wish him good luck.
