Court jails Al Shabaab spy for 30 years

A Court in Mandera has jailed a Somali Al shabaab milita spy Abdirahman Abdi Takow for 30 years for illegally entering the Country.

Takow, a Somalia national and a suspected Al shabaab informer was arrested on September 2017 after sneaking into the Country.

He was charged with impersonating a prisons officer to gain access to the Mandera prison, unlawfully in Kenya and for being a spy.

Takow is said to have been sending intelligence information to Al Shabaab on targets and Kenya security movement.

In his ruling, Mandera Senior resident Magistrate Peter Areri argued that it was evident Abdi Takow entered the Country illegally and was unlawfully collecting intelligence information for the Al shabaab militia.

“The evidence adduced is overwhelming against the accused person who has not given any justifiable reason why he came all the way from Mogadishu and entered the Mandera GK prison.” Areri said.

He dismissed the defendant plea for leniency saying his submissions that he was a refugee who had fled Mogadishu due to war were untrue.
